Our Boilers and Pressure Vessels Safety Program ensures the safe design, construction, maintenance, use, operation and repair of all pressure-retaining components in Ontario. This includes those that produce hot water, steam, compressed air and other compressed liquids and gases.
The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is involved through the entire lifecycle:
- Design
- Manufacturing
- Installation
- Operation
- Maintenance
- Decommissioning
Before pressurized equipment is registered, we conduct an engineering review to verify safety. We examine equipment and facilities prior to start-up and then conduct periodic inspections on uninsured equipment. We also certify inspectors who are licensed to conduct periodic inspections of all insured equipment.
As part of TSSA’s focus on modernizing our processes and services, we’re moving to centralized inspection scheduling, starting with the Boilers and Pressure Vessels (BPV) and Operating Engineers (OE) programs.
New process to schedule Boiler and Pressure Vessel and Operating Engineers inspections effective March 1, 2021.
