Certified ski lift mechanics have specific responsibilities under the law to ensure the safety of everyone using ski lifts, passenger ropeways and passenger conveyors.
Device Compliance
Above all, certified ski lift mechanics are responsible for full compliance of elevating devices in accordance with:
Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000
Ontario Regulation 209/01 - Elevating Devices
Elevating Devices Code Adoption Document Amendments 295/22
CAN/CSA-Z98 Passenger Ropeways and Conveyors safety code
All applicable Director's Orders
All applicable advisories, bulletins, and guidelines
Incident Reporting
Incident reporting is required by law.
Submit an Incident Reporting form to report incidents involving ski lifts, passenger ropeways or conveyors to TSSA.
An “incident” is defined as a consequence to a person or property.
Other Responsibilities
As a certified ski lift mechanic, you are required to:
Stay current with all licensing requirements,Code Adoption Document amendments, compliance standards, required maintenance schedules and manufacturer’s bulletins for elevators and escalators.
Renew your licence every year.
Report any changes to your license information to TSSA within 30 days.
Comply with ED 272/18 – Ski Lift Mechanic Continuing Education Requirements
Incident reporting is required by law - Director’s Guideline #230/09. Promptly report all incidents, accidents and hazardous conditions to the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).
