COVID-19 Exam Protocol:

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the examination process has been modified to stop the spread of COVID-19. Examination candidates must be aware of these changes, as outlined below:

  • TSSA Head Office is still closed to the Public.
  • TSSA/HUBS will not provide reference materials or code books for Operating Engineers/Operator (“OE”) examinations.
    • Candidates will be responsible to bring their own reference materials/code books. More information on the permitted materials for OE examinations can be found in the TSSA Certification Examination Preparation Guide.
  • TSSA/HUBS will not provide any stationary/writing utensils necessary for the examination.
    • Candidates will be responsible to bring in their own materials, including pencils, pens, erasers, a ruler/protractor, and a non-programmable calculator.
    • Multiple choice examinations must be completed in pencil, we recommend bringing multiple pencils and erasers to the examination.

If you wish to schedule an examination at the TSSA Hub City Examination Centre, or a Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, Skills and Development, please review the schedule above.

 Registration process

Candidates should follow these steps to register for an exam:

  • Download the Application Form: Select, download and complete the application form related to your program of interest (for example, Elevating Devices or Fuels Safety) from the “Application forms” dropdown menu below.
  • Check the Examination Schedule: Review the exam schedule which is updated daily to confirm the availability of exam dates and centres before applying. Exams are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. (In the Examination Schedule, an exam sitting is considered closed when the “Available Seats” column is marked with “0”).
  • Submit the Application Form: Complete the application form and ensure that all information is accurate (including contact and payment information) before submission.
  • Complete Payment:
    • Candidates will only be scheduled for the requested exam upon submitting the applicable non-refundable exam fee.
    • We are only accepting applications via our pre-payment portal. Please Note: Examination fees are flat fees put in to the 'Authorization Fee Field'.
    • Applications via mail or courier with valid payment information and/or cheque or money order are also accepted.

Note:

  • Reschedule an Exam: You can make changes or reschedule an exam only ONCE without a fee. You must notify the TSSA by email at least two weeks (10 business days) before the exam date. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the exam fee and a new application form (including pre-payment) will be required.
  • Accredited Training Providers: In some cases, an accredited training provider will make exam arrangements for candidates who are enrolled and attending their in-class training program. Please contact your accredited training provider to learn more about this process.
  • Fuels Safety Exam: If you are registering for a Fuels Safety exam and have completed an Accredited Training Program, please review the work instruction. TSSA cannot schedule your exam until we have received an Application for an Ontario Certificate of Qualification completed by your Accredited Training Provider.
