Registration Information

If you wish to sell an upholstered or stuffed article in Ontario, you must ensure that the manufacturer is registered with us.

How to Register
Complete the appropriate registration form, please PRINT clearly, and ensure all contact information is included; i.e. name, telephone number, email address, and return it to TSSA with payment.

TSSA forms are available in various formats including RTF, PDF, Word and Excel. Forms marked as "Fillable PDF" can be completed on your computer. Some forms must be printed and then completed manually.

When registration applications are processed successfully, a registration certificate is sent out in the mail.

New applications will only be processed with payment attached.

Payment Options

  1. If paying a new registration by cheque or money orders, make cheque or money order payable to the Technical Standards and Safety Authority.  Mail the completed application form with the payment to:

  2. If paying a new registration by credit card (VISA or MASTERCARD only), complete the application which includes the VISA/MASTERCARD Form and submit by:

a)  fax at (416) 231-9601
b)  email to usa-registrations@tssa.org, or
c)  call our Customer Contact Centre at 1-877-682-TSSA (8772)

Note:  Effective July 2010 we no longer accept wire payment for new applications.

Please note: Agents, importers/distributors and retailers are not eligible for registration; however, they may register on behalf of a manufacturer.

How To Renew An Existing Registration Number

Return your invoice with payment to TSSA's Accounts Receivable Department. 

  1. If paying a renewal registration by cheque or money order, please make cheque or money orders payable to the Technical Standards and Safety Authority.  Mail the invoice with payment to:

    Attention:  Accounts Receivable

  2. If paying a renewal registration by credit card (VISA or MASTERCARD), complete the credit card form attached to your invoice and return by:
    a)  mail to the attention of Accounts Receivable (see address under Option 1 above) 
    b)  fax at (416) 231-7290
    c)  email to areceivable@tssa.org, or
    d)  call our Customer Contact Centre at 1-877-682-TSSA (8772)

  3. If paying a renewal registration by wire transfer, note the following bank information:

Pay to Bank:    TD Canada Trust
           Swift:  TDOMCATTTOR
           Account:  05200306317
Beneficiary:    Technical Standards and Safety Authority

Add $CDN 15.00 to your remittance for bank handling charges for wire transfers.

Send a copy of your remittance information including one of the following:  Customers Number, Invoice Number, Registration Number, Manufacturer's Name to Renew registration by:

a)  fax at (416) 231-7290 or
b)  e-mail at areceivable@tssa.org.

Note:  Your bank may deduct additional monies for wire transfers.  Please consult with your bank prior to transferring payment to TSSA to avoid short payment.

Fees Information
Fees are payable in Canadian funds and renewals are paid annually.

Proof of registration
Once a registration number has been issued, articles must bear the appropriate disclosure label to indicate the manufacturer's licensee number, and contents of the filling material(s).

Requirements for other provinces
Two other Canadian provinces, Quebec and Manitoba have similar legislation and reciprocal arrangements with Ontario. Registration is required in all three provinces in which the articles are to be sold.
