The Ski Lift Mechanic Policies and Procedures set out the requirements for Ski Lift Mechanic certification in Ontario, which includes important definitions, information on Skills Passports, and a certificate holder's rights, privileges and obligations.
NEW Continuing Education Requirements for all Ski Lift Mechanics
As of January 1, 2019, all classes of Ski Lift Mechanics (SLMs) must successfully complete the continuing education requirement as set out in TSSA's Director's Order ED-272-18.
Continuing Education Requirement |
Effective January 1, 2019 all classes of Ski Lift Mechanics (SLMs) are required to complete a minimum of 4 hours of instruction from an accredited training provider as per Director’s Order ED-272-18. Documentary proof of completion of the continuing education requirement must be received by TSSA either:

Certification Process |
As outlined in Ontario Regulation 222/01 and the Ski Lift Mechanic Policies & Procedures Document, Ski Lift Mechanics-In-Training or Mechanics who are seeking a higher certification classification (i.e. SLM-A, SLM-F, etc.) are required to submit an application for assessment following the process detailed below: |
Skills Passports |
All Ski Lift mechanics and mechanics-in-training are required to hold and maintain a Skills Passport for the scope of work they are performing. The Ski Lift Mechanic Skills Passport is designed to provide a graphic representation of the experience and skills acquired in a number of specific areas within the passenger ropeway/ski lift industry. In addition to being a requirement for certification, the document will also serve to point supervising mechanics, inspectors, employers and Mechanics-in-Training toward those areas in which additional experience may be needed. Certificate Reinstatement Process |
As outlined in Ontario Regulation 222/01, s. 5(6), 5(7) and the Ski Lift Mechanic Policies & Procedures document, Ski Lift Mechanic and Mechanics-In-Training must apply for reinstatement if they have failed to renew their certificate of qualification within 12 months from the date of expiry. TSSA assesses all applicants on an individual basis. Applicants approved for reinstatement of a Ski Lift Mechanic certificate (i.e. SLM-A, SLM-F) will be required to undergo a written examination in order to qualify for reinstatement of the certificate. Training Providers |
Training providers must be accredited by TSSA before they are eligible to provide or offer a training program to the public. In order for an individual/organization to become accredited, they must submit an application that meets established accreditation and curriculum requirements. |
