The Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000 governs the administration of public safety in the Province of Ontario, including the passenger ropeways and ski lifts.
Regulatory information
Except for elevating devices covered under the Ontario Mining Act, Ontario Regulation 209/01: Elevating Devices (under the Technical Standards and Safety Act) applies to:
- Ski lifts (Passenger Ropeways)
- Elevators
- Escalators
- Dumbwaiters
- Moving walks
- Man lifts
- Platform lifts
- Lifts for disabled persons
- Construction hoists
Mechanics that perform work on Passenger Ropeways (under Elevating Devices) are certified and trained to requirements prescribed by Ontario Regulation 222/01: Certification and Training of Elevating Devices Mechanics.
These regulations should be reviewed in conjunction with the most recent related Code Adoption Document (CAD).
