The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) provides a number of services related to heating fuels for those in the fuels industry. These services ensure that industry members are operating safely and meeting legislative and regulatory standards.
These services include:
- Variance approvals
- Equipment field approvals
- Consultations
For more information on these services, please review the below sections.
Variance approvals |
The TSSA may grant variances from regulations and adopted safety codes and standards in situations where the use of other methods can still ensure fuel safety. These variances allow flexibility for the designer to use designs that do not strictly comply with current regulations but will not reduce the level of safety. Please note that the TSSA charges by the hour for engineering time spent on variance reviews. |
Equipment field approvals |
Our equipment field approvals focus on uncertified equipment and appliances that are custom-made, built on site, or produced in limited numbers. It includes a review of the design along with inspection and verification of the equipment's fuel safety features at the point of installation. If the equipment complies, we will apply a TSSA approval label to the equipment. |
Consultations |
We can provide expertise on fuels-related issues to assist in the development of safe and cost-effective solutions. Our engineering team will consult on equipment designs to determine their conformance with code requirements before the manufacturing process begins. |
