Owners, users, agents, manufacturers and contractors of boilers or pressurized equipment are responsible for registering equipment designs with TSSA.
Before pressurized equipment is registered, its design is subject to an engineering review to ensure compliance with the Act, Regulations and adopted safety codes and standards.
To register a design, please refer to the appropriate guideline below:
Applications for Ontario Registration |
You may be required to complete any of the following Ontario registration documents:
|
How to Submit an Application |
Applications may be submitted to TSSA electronically. Please refer to the Guidelines for Electronic Application. |

Design Revisions/Changes |
Design revisions are submitted in accordance with application process with a letter describing the design changes.
Post construction design changes: Applicable ASME and CSA codes and standards compliance are required where practical. Refer to variance application where compliance is not feasible and equivalent safety can be demonstrated.

Variance Review |
Variances may be allowed for items that don't fully comply with Ontario Regulation 220/01: Boilers and Pressure Vessels, if the variance will not affect the safe use of the item or the health or safety of any person. Apply for a variance review by completing the Application for Variance form. |
Consultation Services |
Consulting services should be obtained from engineers with industry experience. Engineers can be obtained from your own search or through association websites, such as: The TSSA also conducts preliminary design reviews to determine adherence with safety standards. This service helps assure equipment will be acceptable before it's manufactured. |
