The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) reviews designs of amusement devices to ensure they meet the regulations, adopted safety codes and standards of the Technical Standards and Safety Act. Our engineering services include:
- Engineering consulting
- Design registration
- Variance reviews
Please expand the below menus to learn more about TSSA's services.
Engineering consulting |
Consulting services are available for items such as code compliance and design submissions Some amusement devices have no established standards. In these cases, the TSSA conducts a preliminary review of the device to determine if it conforms to the Act, regulations and adopted codes, prior to production of the equipment. This reassures amusement device manufacturers that the equipment will be acceptable before production and reduces costs.

Design registration |
Before a new amusement device is registered, its design must undergo an engineering review to ensure it complies with the Act, regulations and adopted safety codes and standards. To submit a design for registration, please complete the Application for Filing of a Technical Dossier and submit it in one of the following ways:

Variance reviews |
An amusement device may be eligible to receive a variance from regulations and adopted safety codes and standards. A variance may only be granted after a review that finds other methods are in place to ensure equivalent device safety. This allows flexibility for the designer to use designs that don't strictly comply with current regulations but are determined to not reduce the level of safety. To apply for a variance review, complete the Application for Variance form. |
