Our executive leadership team is responsible for effective leadership and overall management of the strategic direction, as well as day-to-day operations, ensuring we achieve the vision and strategic priorities of the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).
With overall accountability for safety services and financial performance, the executive leadership team:

- Ensures excellent customer relationships at all levels of interaction
- Leads by example to ensure application of best practices in safety service delivery and corporate support services
Bonnie Rose, President and CEO |
![]() Bonnie Rose, P.Eng., was appointed President and CEO of the Technical Standards and Safety Authority effective April 4, 2018. Overseeing all aspects of TSSA’s business operations, Bonnie provides leadership on the overall direction and strategic priorities of the organization. Bonnie is focused on strengthening TSSA’s role as a well-respected leader in the safety industry and upholding safety excellence. Bonnie is a seasoned executive with a passion for safety and in-depth knowledge and experience in technical standards. This passion is evident in her previous executive positions as the former CEO and Registrar of Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority; President of the Canadian Standards Association Group - CSA Standards; and Vice President of Service Delivery and Service Quality with CSA International. Bonnie holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto, and a Chartered Director from The Directors College.

Tom Ayres, Vice President and General Counsel |
![]() Tom provides counsel for a wide range of litigation in the areas of public safety and consumer protection, prosecuting offences under the legislation administered by TSSA and representing us at judicial review proceedings, statutory appeals and administrative tribunals. Before joining us in 1996, Tom was legal counsel for the Technical Standards Division at the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations. He was project lead in the creation of the Technical Standards and Safety Act and its 17 associated regulations. Tom received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario and was called to the bar in 1988. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science). |
Dan Brazier, Chief Financial Officer |
Dan is a seasoned corporate finance executive with extensive experience in financial management, strategy development and implementation. Dan has performed interim management and consulting roles, most recently with the Ontario Securities Commission and Moneris, after a career in a range of executive finance roles in Canada and internationally with CIBC, Standard Chartered Bank and UBS. |
Alexandra Campbell, Vice President of Communications and Stakeholder Relations |
Alexandra has extensive experience as a leader in strategic communications, stakeholder & media relations and marketing. For over 20 years, she has worked for government and government agencies at the provincial level in public policy and corporate affairs. Alexandra came to TSSA from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). She achieved her Bachelor of Science from the University of Waterloo. |
Laura Desjardins, Vice President of Human Resources |
Laura has held executive positions in Human Resources at a number of organizations, including most recently Bell Canada Enterprises and Hewlett Packard. Laura has a strong track record in supporting organizations in strengthening their culture, developing HR solutions that are both impactful and customer oriented and implementing training programs to support employee development and advancement. |
Nashir Jiwani, Vice President of Operations |
![]() An accomplished senior executive, Nashir was the former Vice President of Operations, Americas, at CSA Group; Chief Operating Officer and Construction Manager at Aliya’s Foods; VP Operations at Hartmann North America; and Managing Director at DuPont Canada Inc. Nashir holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, a Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from the Schulich School of Business at York University, and a Chartered Director designation from the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University. |
