Organizations may be noncompliant for a variety of reasons, including a lack of understanding. The Technical Standards and Safety Authority’s (TSSA’s) Compliance Support Program provides entities with high-risk devices the opportunity to work directly with TSSA to address their specific issues.
Partners in Compliance
The Compliance Support Program involves a proactive intervention by a TSSA Compliance Support Advisor. The Compliance Support Advisor plays a significant role in supporting organizations to understand their regulatory obligations and guiding them in the development of tools to achieve compliance and reduce the potential for harm to Ontarians.
Supporting Those Who Can Make the Greatest Impact
- TSSA leverages existing data and analytics to identify entities and devices with higher safety risks to the Ontario public
- Compliance Support Program Advisors reach out to organizations that need the most help complying with regulations
- Entities with high-risk devices identified by TSSA are offered an opportunity to voluntarily participate in the Compliance Support Program
- By participating in the program, an organization is eligible to receive compliance support that is focused on education, guidance and advice
- Compliance Support Advisors work collaboratively with clients to develop action plans specific to address clients’ noncompliance issues, enabling clients to take ownership of their safety success
Trust & Value
High-risk entities are offered compliance support:
- Regardless of prevailing enforcement actions, unless an immediate threat to public safety exists
- At no cost to those who agree to participate
- With follow-up support to ensure safety solutions are effective
TSSA Commitment
The Compliance Support Program is support-focused—not enforcement-focused—and plays a pivotal role in TSSA’s transition to an outcome-based regulator that further relies on data to identify risks and focuses on education and harm-reduction strategies targeting the highest risk situations.
The Compliance Support Program is separate and independent from TSSA’s inspection activities, which continue outside of the Program.
This new operational approach is a part of TSSA’s commitment to protect the interests of all Ontarians by ensuring public safety continues to be the guiding purpose for all we do.
