Annual awards acknowledge leaders in public safety

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Toronto, ON May 28, 2020) – Ontario’s public safety regulator, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is accepting nominations for its annual Safety Awards.

TSSA’s Safety Awards program celebrates individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to public safety in Ontario in TSSA’s regulated sectors: Fuels; Boilers and Pressure Vessels and Operating Engineers; Elevating and Amusement Devices and Ski Lifts. And, while this year is notably different as we cope with challenging and unprecedented times and modify our lifestyles and workplaces, TSSA’s Safety Awards program helps to highlight those who demonstrate and work to keep Ontario safe.

The TSSA Safety Awards Program has two award categories that recognize acts and initiatives that enhance public safety for Ontarians.

  • Impact Awards: highlight significant contributions to safety in Ontario that go above and beyond regulatory compliance.
  • Legacy Awards: recognize impact over time for persons or organizations that have demonstrated a history of safety conscientiousness.

The two recipients of last year’s annual awards included W.O. Stinson & Son Ltd. a family run commercial fuel and lubricant distributor with over 80-years of service going beyond established industry safety protocols, and individual winner, Andrew Stone whose workplace injury ignited a lifelong passion for workplace safety advocacy.

“Nominating someone is an easy and meaningful way to acknowledge their leadership in safety,” said Bonnie Rose, TSSA’s President and CEO. “We know that there are many individuals and organizations throughout the province who deserve to be recognized for their contribution to safety, and that’s what makes this award program so important.”

Nominations of individuals and organizations working in TSSA’s regulated sectors will be accepted until August 1, 2020, for this year’s award program.

Additional details and the online nomination forms are available on TSSA’s corporate website at: https://www.tssa.org/en/about-tssa/safety-awards.aspx
