Committed to reflecting the Ontario communities where TSSA works to improve and promote public safety, TSSA had a seat at the table of the international discussions on mentoring women in standards and certification during 2020 Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Week.
Hosted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Women in Standards and Certification (WiSC) committee for the second consecutive year, the event was intended to provide women engineers attending Boiler Code Week with the opportunity to meet and network with one another and discuss the role of mentorship for women in the industry.
Nearly 100 attendees, ranging from recent graduates to retirees who still contribute to standards development, discussed their experiences as mentors and mentees and asked questions of two guest speakers who offered additional mentorship insights.
“Although mostly women attended, a noticeable number of men contributed to the conversation this year,” said Cathy Turylo, Manager Engineering, Boilers and Pressure Vessels. “An industry united in diversity is a great indication of where we’re heading.”
