Periodic Inspections of Boilers & Pressure Vessels
Exemptions
Refer to Section 2(2) of the Boilers and Pressure Vessel Regulation for a list of exemptions. Safety Bulletin SB00-7 on this site gives guidance on systems that are exempt from the Regulation.
General
The Owner of a boiler or pressure vessel is responsible for ensuring that the periodic inspection required by the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulation is performed at the interval prescribed in the Code Adoption Document, and a current certificate of inspection is in place to permit operation of the device.
Periodic (in-service) inspection of boilers or pressure vessels is required at the intervals prescribed in the Code Adoption Document as follows:
- When the boiler or pressure vessel is insured with a boiler and machinery insurance policy, the insurance company is responsible for inspecting the device and issuing the certificate of inspection required by the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulation.
- When the boiler or pressure vessel is not insured, then TSSA inspects the device and issues the certificate of inspection required by the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulation.
Inspection Requirements
The TSSA or insurance company Inspector performs the inspection to the extent deemed necessary.
Upon completion of the inspection, a certificate of inspection is issued as described above.
