General Questions



Q : How can our company qualify as a boiler or pressure vessel manufacturer in Ontario?
A : A manufacturer seeking authorization to manufacture boilers or pressure vessels requires:
  • a documented quality program manual in accordance with CSA B51 and the applicable ASME Code or TSSA requirements
  • a review of the written program manual by a TSSA survey team
  • a demonstration of implementation of the program on an item in progress through the quality system, to the satisfaction of a TSSA survey team

Q : How do I become qualified as a boiler inspector?
A : To obtain qualification as an inspector, it is necessary to:
  • Meet the education and experience requirements in Subsection 12(4)(c) of the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulation
  • Pass the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors commission examination
  • Pass the TSSA Certificate of Competency examination
Note that applications to write the TSSA Certificate of Competency examination must come from the employer (an insurer or organization authorized to perform inspections on behalf of an insurer), who must certify that the applicant meets all the requirements of the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulation.
