Types of Inspections
TSSA is a highly recognized inspection authority in North America, and our ride inspectors are certified by the National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials.
As part of our public safety mandate, inspectors carry out inspections of amusement devices found in carnivals, fairs, amusement parks and other commercial venues to ensure compliance with the national standard and applicable safety legislation.
New devices are inspected prior to start-up, and thereafter at the start of every new season or following a device modification. TSSA is also responsible for investigations should an incident involving an amusement device occurs. Our inspectors have the authority to order any potentially unsafe device to be removed from operation.
The following is a list of the types of amusement device inspections that our ride inspectors carry out:
New Amusement Devices Before a new amusement device is authorized for operation, we perform an onsite inspection. A permit is issued once the device is found to be in conformance with the requirements of the Act and Regulation, its filed Technical Dossier, and the adopted Safety Code for Amusement Rides and Devices.
Existing Amusement Devices At the start of every new amusement ride season, an existing device must renew its operational permit and be inspected by us. The actual permit must be validated during the course of such an inspection by a TSSA inspector.
Pre-Inspections When requested, we provide pre-inspection services of new or existing amusement devices in order to identify non-compliant issues in relation to public safety before a mandated inspection takes place. For more information, please contact: Helen MacDonald Tel: (416) 734-3331 Email: hmacdonald@tssa.org
Out-of-Province Inspections Our amusement device inspection services are available to out-of-province clients. For more information, please contact: Cy Gray Email: cgray@tssa.org
